Europeans prevail in U19 World Championship men’s qualifiers

 
Nanjing, China, July 10, 2018 – Four European pairs moved to the men’s main draw of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championship following victories in the third round of the qualification tournament at the Tangshan International Beach Sports park on Tuesday.



Artur Hajos and Bence Attila Streli got a well-deserved qualification to the main draw, as the Hungarian pair endured three match hurdles with victories over USA’s Jason Gibbs/Jacob Titus 2-1 (15-21, 21-15, 15-8), Iran’s Sajad Heidari Sirmandi/Sina Shokati Shekarsaraei 2-0 (21-18, 21-7) and the Czech Republic’s Vit Benes/Tomas Maixner 2-1 (21-16, 19-21, 15-12).

Russia’s Denis Shekunov and Dmitrii Veretiuk played solidly in the qualification round with two victories. The Russians started with a 2-0 (21-10, 21-11) win over Ecuador’s Dany Jair Leon Nieves/Joffre Rodolfo Jurado Carrillo and ensured their qualification with a 2-0 (21-13, 21-18) triumph against Latvia’s Janis Jansons/Roberts Klavins.

The other double-match winners are Germany’s Rudy Schneider/Simon Pfretzschner and Italy’s Alberto Di Silvestre/Tobia Marchetto.

Schneider/Pfretzschner beat Turkey’s Yusuf Ozdemir/Ali Cebeci 2-0 (25-23, 21-15) and Ukraine’s Vladyslav Pavliuk/Ihor Sviridov 2-0 (21-19, 21-16), while Di Silvestre A/Marchetto routed Israel’s Tomer Hadar/Eylon Elazar 2-0 (21-10, 21-18) and the Netherlands’ Yorick de Groot/Rik Damen 2-0 (22-20, 21-19).
