Two Spanish pairs reach women’s main draw in Nanjing

 
Nanjing, China, July 10, 2018 – Spain’s Aina Munar Galmes/Sofia Gonzalez Racero and Daniela Alvarez Mendoza/Tania Moreno Matveeva advanced to the women’s main draw of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships at the Tangshan International Beach Sports Park on Tuesday.



Munar/Gonzalez opened the women’s qualification matches with a three-set win (21-7, 19-21, 15-5) against Brazil’s Maria Luiza Sena de Paula Silva/Cristiele Schwatrzhaupt. Munar/Gonzalez won their second tiebreaker of the day against Varvara Brailko/Anete Namike 2-1 (12-21, 21-18, 15-8) to move to the next round.

Their compatriots Alvarez M/Moreno, who skipped the first and second round of play, came up with a big straight-set (21-19, 21-14) win over Russia’s Anna Movchan/Elizaveta Ludkova in the third round.

Hungary’s Orsolya Orban/Nikolett Tatrai and the United States’ Maya Harvey/Megan Kraft had two straight-set victories apiece to advance to the main draw.

Orban/Tatrai won their first match easily with an 2-0 (21-12, 21-10) onslaught of Vanuatu’s Luduine Tabeim/Maybel Ravo, before another 2-0 (21-16, 21-11) blitz over Israel’s Noga Manor/Maya Ben Shlomo.

Harvey/Kraft got a harder push from their Kazakh rivals Kristina Zhuk/Dana Rubilko, but the American duo still managed to gain a 2-0 (21-16, 23-21) win in their first match. Harvey/Kraft dictated the tempo in their next match and came up with a 2-0 (21-15, 21-12) win over New Zealand’s Brittany Allison-Carnie/Katie Sadlier.
